Sea Week

Another fantastic entry in our Senior Ocean Champion competition from Happy Steps in Dargaville.
Senior Ocean Champion Challenge Name: Happy Steps into the future

What is the problem your Ocean Challenge is trying to solve? Caring for tangaroa kaitiakitanga

How will your Ocean Challenge solve this problem? Be specific – identify objectives, actions and outcomes: We are wanting children to experience an environment where they will develop working theories and make sense of their natural world. To take care of tangaroa and everything it has to offer. Extending children’s interest and knowledge around sustaining our kai Mōana and what it takes to look after it to become a kaitiakitanga of the sea. We will be undergoing Seaweek with lots of knowledgeable fun exciting activities and information for our tamariki and any whanau who wishes to join us.

How will you engage with others to undertake your Ocean Challenge? We will be sending out a news letter to parents and whanau inviting them to join our Seaweek extravaganza. We are hoping for visits from our local community organisations to join us and explain to us the importance of their jobs (DOC and MPI) we are also trying to get hold of our local Coast Guard to teach us the importance of water safety.

How will you measure the success of your Ocean Challenge? The engagement of the tamariki, Photos, learning stories and whanau contributions.

Tell us about your Ocean Champion Challenge and you can win fantastic prizes from New Zealand Coastal Society, Auckland Whale & Dolphin Safari and Auckland Outboard Boating Club. Enter now: https://seaweek.org.nz/nominate-your-ocean-champion/
